• Imaging converts an anlog signal into a digital signal

• When converting an analog signal into a digital signal the sampling theorem applies

• Nyquist-Shannon sampling theorem “the sampling interval must not be greater than one-half the size of the smallest resolvable feature of the optical image”

• sampling at nyquist rate means using exactly this interval

• sampling interval is the pixel size in our image
